Columbia and her rivers have a rich history, but the present and future use of the river system is equally exciting. For the last 30-plus years, a dogged determination to open the rivers for public enjoyment has been underway and is beginning to come together in a comprehensive plan that, when completed, will reach from the Lake Murray dam to I-77 — a distance of approximately 15 miles. The majority of the trail system running along the banks has been completed, but gaps remain inhibiting a totally connected system of parks, museums, Riverbanks Zoo, and Lake Murray.
