The Darnall W. and Susan F. Boyd Foundation was founded in 2010 by Columbia businessman Darnall “Donny” Boyd. Donny passed away in 2015 and left essentially his entire estate to the Foundation. Susan Boyd passed away in 2025 and left a significant amount of assets to the Foundation. Donny and Susan, shared a passion for the outdoors and a love for the natural beauty of Columbia and the Midlands. It was Donny’s wish that the Foundation work to accentuate Columbia’s natural beauty and make the outdoors more accessible for everyone. Donny’s mantra for the Foundation was “I may be in a small pond, but I want to be the big fish”, which guides the Foundation today in selecting projects to be underwritten by the Foundation.

The Boyd Foundation is unique. The projects it undertakes are focused primarily on improving the quality of life in the Midlands. The Board thinks it is important to make outdoor recreational amenities available for everyone to enjoy so the Midlands is a better place to live and so we attract and retain talented people.
Our community has a lot to offer. The Boyd Foundation wants to develop it to the fullest.
“When we take on a project, we do not merely contribute funds. Instead, we handle the project from start to finish. Then we put our name on it.” – George Bailey
